Today we are introducing you to Romy Mitchell as our BethieLife Woman Crush. Looking at Romy, you would think she is a Vogue cover model, but there’s brains behind all that beauty. Romy is actually an anesthesiologist in private practice with Methodist Hospital. Having her in the operating room would sure lessen the pain. Welcome, Romy!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Houston (West University and South Hampton).
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three beauty products would you like to have with you?
Regenica Stem-Cell Sunscreen, Tweezers and Lip Sugar lip balm
Who or what has been the biggest influence on your personal style?
Definitely my mother (she was a ballet teacher for many years). Also, my grandmother who loved long palazzo pants and long gowns. Also, Trish Westcoat, who is the genius behind Haute Hippie.
What is your favorite indulgence?
Long naps! Really nice wine, Chanel purses and 2-hour massages.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Definitely to always maintain financial security (especially no credit card debt), and don’t necessarily believe what people tell you – let them prove their loyalty by their actions.
What is your favorite Houston store and/or restaurant?
Max and Julie’s Brasserie, Tootsies (Chris Goins and team are amazing), 13 Degrees Celcius and Brasserie 19 (my home away from home).
What’s on your plate? (Future projects, travel plans, etc.)
PADI scuba certification (Great Barrier Reef dive with friends), also considering achieving my yoga teacher-training to go deeper into my practice, African safari in the Serengeti, a visit to Morocco, also a potential local media project in the works as well as collaborating on a medical column for a local publication.
How do you spend your down time?
Yoga, weights/cardio with trainer, hiking traveling, lunch and museums with friends, dinner (sometimes very long dinners with friends).
Tell us one Houston Hidden Gem (places that aren’t necessarily well-known) that you recommend.
Max and Julie’s Brasserie is one of my hidden gems – love this place, also 13 Degrees Celcius wine bar and Etro 80’s Dance Club in Montrose.
Tell us three of your favorite shopping/beauty/lifestyle websites.
Luxurylink.com, eluxury.com, bethielife.com, neimanmarcus.com. Also, I’m an ITunes addict!
Tell us three of your health/beauty tips.
Watch your caloric intake with a food journal, stay hydrated, Hot Yoga to detox at least 3 times a week.
What are three things you can’t live without? (Besides God, family, and friends.)
My yoga practice, nightly chats with my mother, fresh juices (kale, celery, apple, watermelon, etc).
Do you have any irrational fears?
So weird – waking up blind – I’ve been terrified of losing my eyesight since I was a child – and I’m very nearsighted already! I am sure there is some meaning behind this involving other fears or inhibitions that I have.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
I love Maui, Florence, Italy and Aspen, Colorado. I also love Santa Monica – there are too many to name!
If you weren’t in your present occupation, what would you dream of doing?
An art dealer, art teacher, yoga instructor, life coach, psychiatrist or professional surfer. But let me also add professional barrel racer or tango dancer..I think I’m a little too tall for those, but hey a girl can dream right?!
What books or movies have you loved recently?
I’ve been hugely into historical fiction lately – especially settings at the height of the Second World War and the time directly after in Berlin, Morocco, Madrid and Lisbon. I just finished the novel “City of Women” by David Gillham and before that “The Time In Between” by Maria Duenas. Both extremely colorful and delightful page-turners. Sad and dark, but at the same time passionate and hope-inspiring. I haven’t seen any movies lately, but love to see small independent films at the River Oaks Theatre – I’ve been going there since high school. Also, all the self-improvement books by Baron Baptiste – he’s a genius and incredibly inspiring.

Tell us something humorous about yourself
I fall and stumble ALL THE TIME – especially walking up and down stairs. I have small feet for my amazon height so I think this throws me off a little.

Good job – Beth and Romy. Loved all of the pictures and the interview. Beth, since I met you at Brasserie 19 and you were wearing a little tulle “tutu”, I knew I would like you.
Beth Muecke says
That makes sense since you were a ballet teacher 🙂

I have had the pleasure of meeting Romy in person on numerous occasions. She is a delight and simply ravishing. Every time I see her she says ‘oh Bob, take me home!’ You know what? One of these days I will!
