Former attorney, stay-at-home mom, tech entrepreneur. Kathleen just launched the BeautyNow app, an OpenTable for booking spa and salon appointments across the U.S. I also write the popular “BeautyNow Blog.”

Where did you grow up?
I’m from Cleburne, Texas, just outside of Ft. Worth. I moved to Houston after law school to work at a big law firm.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three beauty products would you like to have with you?
Who or what has been the biggest influence on your personal style?
Anna Wintour! I have read Vogue since the age of 12. And one time I ran into her at the Randall’s on Westheimer!
What is your favorite indulgence?
Queso and Margaritas.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.
What is your favorite Houston store and/or restaurant?
Atrium RTW, A Bientot, Corner Table and Eddie V’s.
What’s on your plate? (Future projects, travel plans, etc.)
Belize with my husband in a couple weeks, then family trips to Beaver Creek and Carmel over the summer.
How do you spend your down time?
With my kids, running around a park, a birthday party, or the Children’s Museum.

Don’t diet or overexercise! It just makes you hungrier and more likely to binge on unhealthy foods. Avoid the “all or nothing” mentality– just because you splurged on that cupcake does not mean the day is shot and you might as well pig out. Sleep a lot and don’t drink (and do as I say, not as I do! Ha!)
Do you have any irrational fears?
Ball Fear. I flinch if there is a ball or frisbee being thrown around in the near vicinity.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
My husband and I went to New Zealand for two weeks for our honeymoon. We are obsessed!
If you weren’t in your present occupation, what would you dream of doing?
Building my own company in the beauty field is a dream come true! It is an enormous amount of work, but there is no other job I would rather be doing.
What books or movies have you loved recently?
I saw “Neighbors” last night at Sundance Theater downtown. I have not laughed that consistently throughout a movie in a long time, maybe ever!
