Location: Elizabeth Anthony
I recently had the opportunity to meet with emerging luxury handbag designer Tyler Alexandra at Elizabeth Anthony. Tyler Ellis, daughter of the late, famed designer Perry Ellis, designs the line, which she launched after graduating from Boston University.
The store hosted her exotic handbag trunk show where Tyler made a two day personal appearance. I was immediately impressed with her personally as well as with her amazing collection. When I interviewed her (see below) she was super cute and friendly, not to mention we have a few things in common. 🙂
Aiming to create contemporary yet classically conceived and shaped handbags, Ellis employs top artisans in Florence, Italy to bring her sophisticated designs to life. The result is an astonishing array of clutches, totes, doctor bags and backpacks in a rainbow of colors and textures.
Sumptuous, stylish materials like alligator, cobra, and ostrich leg pair perfectly with Ellis’ unwavering commitment to couture craftsmanship. Special details like sliding lock hardware, Thayer blue lining and pinecone feet round out these robust yet feminine bags. Many designs also include an optional, customizable metal plate or tag to fully personalize the piece.
Tyler Alexandra bags have been spotted all over the red carpet in the fashionable hands of some of the world’s most recognizable celebrities.
Check out our interview below and learn what we have in common!

BL: I noticed a lot of your photos for the Spring/Summer campaign feature beautiful blue water. Is there a reason for that?
TE: I’m a Scorpio and obsessed with water.
BL: I am a Mom and big believer in the power of DNA. What are some of the traits you have inherited from your father?
TE: My Dad liked the finest things. He sought perfection and attention to details. He loved water. He liked to socialize in small groups, surrounded by close loyal friends. He had a wicked sense of humor. He nicknamed everyone. He always said that fashion should be happy and fun. I also have those same traits.
BL: Why handbags?
TE: I have always loved handbags from a very young age. I especially have always loved luxury bags. I always had to have the top 3 designer bags.
BL: What is the significance of the pinecone?
TE: The pinecone represents the third eye.. the pineal gland. It represents the highest form of spiritual awakening and is an emblem of spiritual illumination.
BL: How would you describe your bags?
TE: Exotic luxury. Functional luxury. I think exotic skins are so beautiful and each of ours is unique with it’s treatment and color. Some of our bags have phone chargers, some open up on the bottom for storage and they all have several pockets.
BL: What would you say to your Dad if you could?
TE: I would thank him. He has enabled me to live my dream. Every one of my bags has a gold plaque on the inside and is inscribed with his handwriting.
BL: Do you have any irrational fears?
TE: Public speaking. Bleecccchhhh.
BL: What are your hobbies?
TE: Golf, wine and fine dining. I love to go to Napa and have a wine-carry bag in my collection.
BL: WAIT! Let me get this straight….You love golf (me too), wine (me too) , dining (me too) and your entire Fall/Winter 2016 campaign is called “Le Mouvement” and is photographed with professional ballerinas holding your bags. I was a ballerina and am on the Board of Houston Ballet. Also, my friend Jaquel (with us in the photo) was a professional ballerina with Houston Ballet.
Tyler, your Dad may be Perry Ellis, but your soul sister is Beth Muecke 🙂
