Today we are introducing you to Chris Pinkalla as our BethieLife Man Crush. Chris is a young man with a rising star in Hollywood. He grew up in Houston, but his love of acting and scriptwriting took him to Los Angeles. His film, Land of Leopold, is premiering at the Sun Valley Film Festival in March. Where did you grow up?
I’m from Houston.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three beauty products would you like to have with you?
Well, hopefully I would have some sort of beauty products could help me make a fire so I could survive.
Who or what has been the biggest influence on your personal style?
I just watch what my favorite actors style or try to pick up things from stylish people off the street here in LA.
What is your favorite indulgence?
Going to movies alone, and just pigging out on junk food.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Follow your dreams. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
What’s on your plate? (Future projects, travel plans, etc.)
My film, Land of Leopold, is premiering at the Sun Valley Film Festival in March. Then Reno-Tahoe International Film Festival in June. Premiering on HBO Europe in the next few months. Other than that I’m in LA pursuing acting work and writing another screenplay.
How do you spend your down time?
I like to exercise – running on the beach. I also love to read and watch as many films as I can get my hands on.
Tell us one Houston Hidden Gem (places that aren’t necessarily well-known) that you recommend.
Not that hidden, but it’s The Menil – there’s usually always a great art exhibit there. I like to stop in everytime I come in town.

I never shop except when I have to… As far as lifestyle websites – I like IndieWire, and The Playlist – both are filmmaking websites.

Use deodorant, brush your teeth, be yourself.
What are three things you can’t live without? (Besides God, family, and friends.)
Guitar(s), books, exercise.
Do you have any irrational fears?
Not that irrational – but recently I’ve noticed I’ve developed a fear of heights and flying – Not exactly fun.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
I haven’t been on a proper vacation in ages. I mean my idea of a vacation, as of recent has been a week or weekend in San Francisco visiting my brother or NYC visiting my ex-girlfriend.
If you weren’t in your present occupation, what would you dream of doing?
I don’t really know – I really like to act. So I think it would be something else related to film or theatre.
What books or movies have you loved recently?
Film – Force Majeur, Inherent Vice / Books – Garden of Eden and A Moveable Feast (both) by Ernest Hemingway

I’m a big nerd – like to play video games from time to time, and I love to watch romantic movies, love stories and that kind of stuff.
