Location: Houston Ballet
Houston Ballet’s brand new production of The Nutcracker debut’s Friday November 25th and runs through Dec. 27th. Stanton Welch’s opulent and fantastical new production is not to be missed!! Snowflakes, Sword fights, Dancing Dolls, and a Christmas tree the reaches the sky are just a few things in this production that promises everything you love about The Nutcracker, only brighter and more splendid than ever. There are all new grand sets, costumes, choreography and music with more animals, children and dancers. The Nutcracker features the entire Houston Ballet company of dancers playing hundreds of fun and exciting new roles.
I recently had the opportunity to visit the costume shop, headed by Laura Lynch, at Houston Ballet and get a sneak peek of the costumes, fabrics and sets. I got to see stunning fabrics, animal heads, snowflake costumes and sugar plums. All of these extraordinary pieces are under wraps until stage debut 🙂 Of course!! British award winning international stage, television and film set and costume designer Tim Goodchild has taken the helm in designing all the costume and sets.
Houston Ballet is renowned for it’s production of The Nutcracker, started 29 years ago by Ben Stevenson, and the tradition lives on and flourishes under the direction of Stanton Welch.
I could go on and on about the magnificence of this major ballet event, but I won’t do it justice and you just have to see it yourself. Take your family, friends, kids and grandkids to experience this massive feast for the eyes and soul. This will be an experience you will never forget. We are so lucky to live in Houston, where the arts in their grandest form are culminated and brought directly to us.
I am so proud to say that I have been on the Board of Houston Ballet for almost 17 years and am continuously amazed by this ballet company. I’m so excited for the new Nutcracker and I love Houston Ballet!!
