Location: The Driskill Hotel
Built in 1886 as the showplace of cattle baron Jesse Driskill, The Driskill Hotel remains a legendary landmark in Texas hospitality. As a member of The Historic Hotels of America, The Driskill offers an elite level of luxury accommodations and services, as one the world’s finest hotels. Located in downtown Austin, the iconic and historic hotel is convenient to the best of Austin – including the Texas State Capitol and Sixth Street.
For well over a century, historical benchmarks have regularly been crafted at The Driskill. Former President Lyndon B. Johnson awaited news of his successful 1948 Senate run and his 1960 election to the office of Vice President, and 1964 election as President from the Mezzanine-level Jim Hogg room. Inaugural balls for Texas governors Sul Ross, William P. Hobby, and Dan Moody also took place here at The Driskill.
The restaurant in the Driskill was used in the movie Miss Congeniality (2000), although it was represented as the restaurant in the St. Regis in Manhattan.
There have been rumors for years that The Driskell is haunted, but I’ve stayed there many times and didn’t see any ghosts. Boooo!!
