The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – Houston Branch is located on Allen Parkway near downtown. It is one of 3 branches of the FRB-Dallas. As one of the 12 regional Reserve Banks in the Federal Reserve System, the Dallas Fed serves the 11th district which consists of Texas, northern Louisiana and southern New Mexico. This 300,000 s.f. building was built shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Original plans for the facility were for it to be “open and inviting”, but that changed , understandably, to “secure”. In any given year, this location handles over $50 billion in cash which would explain the need for its 68 foot tall vault built with 800 tons of steel and 500 trucks of cement! You can go on-line to request a tour (only parts of the building are available for tours) at www.dallasfed.org
