Location: Sloan/Hall
Is there anywhere in Houston not under construction?! Well, for this shoot I decided, if you can’t beat em’, join em’. Besides, it can be uncomfortable, but sometimes you have to dig things up and move them around in order to make improvements in your life. But then the excitement begins! I’m improving my wardrobe with this one-of-a-kind denim jacket by hot LA-based designer David Black from Sloan/Hall.
Denim and leather designer David Black was recently at Sloan/Hall and I instantly fell in love with this amazing denim jacket. You could wear this over anything! I paired it with a skirt by Philosophy, Tshirt by Opening Ceremony and earrings by Lisbeth Jewelry.
To debut his first collection, 24-year old David Black chose to return to his Texas roots and brought his denim rock-and-roll vibes with him to Sloan/Hall. David’s infatuation with fashion and music started long before his designs did. Always loving the western feel, vintage and denims, and having a love for rock-and-roll just made the designs in his collection come naturally. It was when David was in London a few years ago that he was inspired by British fashion and culture. He bought a denim jacket from a vintage shop, and from there the story begins. David loved the fit and wash, but decided he wanted to make the jacket a little more his own. He added a famous Rolling Stones patch, then just kept adding additional patches and embellishments. He immediately was getting compliments and recognition from his work, and so the idea of creating a line full of jackets with this rocker art was sparked!
David now lives out on the West Coast soaking up the hippie, laid back, mixed vibes in the sun. He describes his denim line, that is filled with patches, paint, studs, and other embellishments, as “far out”.
You can see all of his one of a kind pieces on his website. He even takes custom orders if you have a special request!
“I incorporate many different aspects from my favorite cultures into the style of my denim. These include, the old southwestern Native\\ Western culture, the Vintage West Coast Rock\\Punk culture, and lastly the culture of the Americana\\Modern Pop art world. You will see a myriad of designs taken from these cultures infused into my denim. I use paint, patches, beads and studs to decorate the denim creating one of a kind wearable pieces of art. These jackets for those looking to stand out rather than fit in. I love when people express themselves through their personal style and clothing. I would love to make you your favorite jacket that will last a lifetime.”
Peace, Love & Rock & Roll.
